Residency Program
Meriter Hospital – 6 months
Six months of the PGY-3 year are spent at Meriter Hospital, an affiliated 450 bed institution, located 10 minutes by car from University Hospital. The Meriter rotation provides our residents with a community-based practice experience in neurosurgery that is not divided by subspecialty. While on Meriter rotation residents are expected to participate in all operative cases and take the lead in postoperative care.
UW Hospital – 6 months
The PGY-3 pathology rotation is scheduled at UW Hospital. The resident works one on one with our neuropathologist Dr. Shariar Salamat and is provided with his/her own work area equipped with microscope, desk, computer and slide projector. While on this rotation the resident becomes familiar with the pathophysiology of nervous system diseases, the interpretation of histologic slides and gross brain dissection.
The remaining 3 month block of the PG 3 year is spent at UW hospital as a junior resident in one clinical subspecialty from among spine, functional, pediatrics or tumor/vascular. The resident consolidates plans for the research portion of the upcoming PG-4 year.
